ROP BRINGS PCF PAPER TO DC
RECYCLED OFFICE SUPPLIES COMPANY, INC.'s goal of impacting the manufacture and distribution of processed chlorine free, high post-consumer paper has gotten a boost. By recruiting high volume users, the DC Chlorine Free Buying Club has created sufficient demand to enable ROP to distribute 100% post-consumer, processed chlorine free paper to the DC area. The Club is run in partnership with the Resource Conservation Alliance, a project of Ralph Nader's Washington DC based non-profit The Center for Study of Responsive Law.
Launched in 1999, the Club has purchased over 50 tons of paper with impressive environmental savings. Using EPA guidelines, 50 tons of 100% post-consumer paper saves:
| 495,000
Gallons of Water
| 338,250
Kilowatt Hours of Energy
| 338,250-473,550
Pounds of Carbon Dioxide Emissions*
| 1350
Full Grown Trees
| 450
Cubic Yards of Landfill Space, since paper represents 38.1% by weight, of the municipal solid waste stream

In addition, this paper produces no dioxin. Dioxin has been connected with many cancers, infertility, learning disabilities, diabetes, etc.
The Club's success impacts other regions of the US as well. Colored paper, which is 100% post-consumer and processed chlorine free, will now be available in the Northeast for the first time. Before the Club, no PCF paper was available in the DC area.
The Club is a great example of what can happen when we unite our energy and purchasing power. Together we can do what none of us can do alone.
People interested in joining the DC area Club should contact Yuri Huta at 202-387-8030. People interested in setting up a similar Club in other parts of the country should contact ROP representative Joyce Schelling at 207-262-5585 or at
